Kennewick Jail Roster

The Kennewick jail roster tracks people booked into the Benton County Jail after an arrest by Kennewick Police. Kennewick is the largest city in Benton County and part of the Tri-Cities metro area along with Richland and Pasco. The city does not run its own long-term jail. All bookings go to Benton County facilities. You can search the Kennewick jail roster through the Benton County Sheriff's site, which posts current inmate data. This page covers how to find a booking, what the roster shows, and how to get records when the online list falls short.

How the Kennewick Jail Roster Works

The Kennewick Police Department handles law enforcement inside city limits. When an officer makes an arrest, the person is taken to the Benton County Jail. The sheriff runs the jail and keeps the booking log. Kennewick does not have a holding facility of its own, so every arrest in the city ends up on the Benton County roster.

The Benton County system posts inmate data online. Search by last name. Each record shows the booking date, the charges, and the bail amount when set. If no match comes up, the person may have been released, transferred, or not yet processed. Intake at the jail can run a few hours from the time of arrest to when the record goes live on the site.

Kennewick is the biggest city in the county. That means a large share of the Benton County jail roster comes from Kennewick Police arrests.

Kennewick Police Arrest Records

The Kennewick Police Department keeps its own arrest files apart from the jail roster. The police file has the incident report, the officer name, and the reason for the stop. The jail roster is a different record kept by a different agency. You may need both.

For a copy of a Kennewick police report, file a public records request with the city. Under RCW 42.56, the Public Records Act, the city must respond within five business days. The reply may be the record, a denial, or a time estimate. Some parts of the report may be redacted. Juvenile names and active investigation notes are commonly held back. The rest of the record comes as a copy or digital file.

Benton County Jail Register Law

Under RCW 70.48.100, the Benton County Jail must keep a register that is open to the public. The law requires the jail to log the name of each person held, the hour and date of booking, the cause, and the hour, date, and manner of release. This covers every Kennewick arrest that results in a booking at the county jail.

The full inmate file is not open to the public. Medical records, mental health data, and security plans are held in confidence. Only criminal justice agencies, the courts, and certain research groups can see the full file. The general public sees the register and nothing more. Booking photos can be shared among agencies for investigation purposes, but the rest of the inmate record stays sealed.

Searching the Kennewick Jail Roster Online

Start with the last name. Add a first name if you can. The Benton County system will show all current inmates that match. If the last name is common, you may see results from other Tri-Cities arrests too. Kennewick, Richland, and West Richland all book into the same county jail. Use a first name or date range to narrow it down.

For people sentenced to state prison, the jail roster will no longer show them. Use the DOC Incarcerated Search. The state DOC was set up under RCW 72.09 and runs all state adult prisons. The DOC Search Resources page links to both state and federal tools in one spot.

Note: The Kennewick jail roster is a booking log, not a criminal history or a conviction record.

Custody Alerts for Kennewick Inmates

The VINE service sends free custody alerts. Sign up with the person's name and your contact info. VINE sends a call, text, or email when the person is booked, transferred, or released from the Benton County Jail. It covers Kennewick arrests because the data flows from the county jail system.

There can be a short delay between the jail update and the alert going out. For the fastest data, call the Benton County Jail booking desk. VINE is run with help from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.

Kennewick Municipal Court Data

The Kennewick Municipal Court handles misdemeanors and city code violations from Kennewick Police arrests. Felony and more serious charges go to Benton County Superior Court. Pair the jail roster with the court docket for the full picture. The roster says where the person is. The docket says what happens next in the case.

Use the Odyssey court portal to look up Washington court cases by name or case number. A booking on the jail roster often matches a first appearance the next business day.

Criminal History and the Kennewick Roster

The jail roster is not a criminal history. It logs who is in the jail right now or who was booked recently. For a full Washington criminal history, use the WATCH service from the State Patrol. WATCH is the official source for conviction data and covers every county in Washington.

The DOC runs a Public Records Office for prison and supervision records that are not in the online search. If someone left the Benton County Jail for a state prison, the DOC system is the next place to look. The Tri-Cities area also has federal activity. For federal inmates, use the BOP inmate locator linked on the DOC Search Resources page.
