How to Search the Clark County Jail Roster

Start at the Clark County Sheriff's Office website. The sheriff runs the jail and posts roster data for people held in custody. You can search by last name to pull up a booking. The roster page will show the name, the book date, the charges, and bail info when it has been set. Some entries also show a booking photo.

If you do not see the person you want, the booking may not be posted yet. New bookings can take a few hours to show up on the site. Call the sheriff's office at (564) 397-2211 and ask the records desk. They can check the roster by phone and tell you if a person is in custody. The Clark County Jail page has more detail on how the jail handles bookings and what info is in each entry.

You can also pair the jail roster name with the Odyssey court portal to find the next court date tied to the booking. Odyssey covers district and municipal court cases across Washington. Type the last name, pick the county, and pull the docket.

Clark County Jail Roster Records

Under RCW 70.48.100, every jail in Washington must keep a register that is open to the public. The Clark County jail register includes the name of each person held, the hour and date of the booking, the cause of the booking, and the hour, date, and manner of release. This is the core of the jail roster. The full inmate file has more data, but only the register is public by default.

A typical Clark County jail roster entry will show the inmate name, age, booking date and time, charges filed at booking, bail or bond amount, and housing unit. Some entries include a booking photo. Booking photos can be used for criminal investigations and may be shared with other law enforcement agencies under state law. The rest of the inmate file is held in confidence.

Medical records, mental health records, and security plans are not part of the public roster. Those items are exempt from disclosure and are only shared with criminal justice agencies, the courts, or with the written consent of the person.

Clark County Jail Roster and Public Records

The Washington Public Records Act gives you the right to ask for jail records. You do not need to give a reason. You do not need to live in Washington. Clark County must respond within five business days. They can give you the record, deny it with a reason, or ask for more time. Use the Clark County Public Records portal to file a request online.

For records that go past what the online roster shows, put the inmate name, the date range, and any booking number in your request. Things like visitor logs, phone call logs, and full housing histories need a formal request. The basic jail roster data is always free to view, but copies of documents may carry a small fee per page.

Custody Alerts for Clark County Inmates

The VINE service sends free custody status alerts for Clark County inmates. Sign up to get a call, a text, or an email when an inmate is booked, released, or moved. VINE is run with help from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. The service is free and confidential. It works for both jail bookings and state prison transfers.

Crime victims can also reach the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy at (800) 822-1067. The DOC Victim Services Program is at (800) 322-2201. Both lines handle questions about custody status and notification.

Clark County Jail Roster Laws

Two state laws shape what you can see in the Clark County jail roster. The first is RCW 70.48.100, the jail register law. It says every jail must log each booking and each release on a timely basis and keep that log open to the public. The second is RCW 42.56, the Public Records Act. Read together, they mean the Clark County jail must post its roster data and must answer your records requests.

The Washington Department of Corrections was set up under RCW 72.09. The DOC runs all state prisons and the supervision of adults released to the community. If a person is moved from the Clark County jail roster to a state prison after sentencing, use the DOC Incarcerated Search to track them. The DOC search shows the name, age, DOC number, and current facility.

Note: Clark County must respond to a public records request within five business days under the Public Records Act.

Clark County Court Records

People booked into the Clark County jail often have a case in Clark County Superior Court. The Superior Court handles felony cases, major civil matters, and family law. You can search the court docket for the name on the jail roster to find the charges, the judge, the attorney, and the next hearing date. The court posts its calendar online as well.

For city-level cases in Vancouver, check the Vancouver Municipal Court. Individuals arrested in Vancouver may have cases heard in that court for city ordinance violations. Municipal court records can be searched through the Odyssey portal too.

For a full criminal history check, the Washington State Patrol runs the WATCH service. WATCH is the official source for conviction records in Washington. It costs a small fee and covers the whole state, not just Clark County.
